Sergey Dyadechko: "Gladyr had surgery in the clinic, where Chelsea players are being treated".
Journalist:

Sergei, first of all, thank you for finding the opportunity to communicate in your schedule. Now it's been more than enough time to finish last season, and it's a good reason to remember last year and ask you about your plans for the future. How does the Ukrainian president of Monaco assess the success of his club in the 2016/17 season? Briefly, what is your score on a five-point scale?

Sergey Dyadechko:

- At the Euro-arena, we played at the top five - no one could even imagine that in the Final of the Four Champions League will be present debutant, whose budget is much more modest than that of the other participants.

In the domestic arena, we had a great success in the regular championship, winning the second year in a row and winning the League Cup. However, the performance in the playoffs "smeared" the overall impression of the season.

Journalist:

If any president of the club is asked about the secret of success, he will certainly say that there is no one recipe, but there is a combination of factors. And yet, what is the main reason for such rapid growth of "Monaco"?

Sergey Dyadechko:

Indeed, I think that every result can be found justification, but honestly speaking - all this is like a fairy tale for us. Only recently the team played in the fourth French division, and now we have two wins in the regular elite division championship, two League Cups and Champions League bronze. But what I want to say is that besides the fact that there is a system in the club where everyone does their work, we were also lucky. I am convinced that without a share of luck in the sport can not do. Nothing can guarantee success, even thoroughly correct personnel work, it is necessary that the stars come together.

Journalist: Is not this a certain underestimation of ourselves?

Sergey Dyadechko:

No I do not think so. You have to look at everything from different angles. Okay, let's call it not luck, but justice. I said before - we took the right people, we did everything wisely, competently and systematically. Apparently therefore deserved. God rewarded us!

Journalist:

Well, let's go further. I'm not sure if you ever asked such an interview at least once, so I'll try - why did you take it for Monaco? Why did they create a professional team there?

Sergey Dyadechko:

First of all, probably, because my family lives in Monaco. When they moved, I began to visit here more often and during one of the meetings I learned that the principality has an amateur team in the 4th division, which has its own history, but does not yet have an investor. I started a dialogue with the government, and it was very happy that there was a man who was ready to raise the club to the elite and bring it to the international level. I must note with gratitude that for us the local government is doing its utmost. We are promoted by all that is possible.

Well, the second reason, no less important - I realized that I would find like-minded people here. Let's talk frankly - everyone understands what Monaco is. It is objectively easier here than in other cities and countries to seek sponsors and partners for the team. Quite a lot of wealthy people who have an interest in sports.

Journalist:

If this is not a commercial secret, is Monaco now a subsidized project, or is it already generating revenue? If not, how long do you expect to receive it?

Sergey Dyadechko:

As far as I know, now no basketball club in Europe has an outlet for net profit, and I have no illusions that it will work for us. European grants so generally spend tens of millions on the salaries of players, but only a few million from commercial activities and sponsors. Basketball clubs are always more of an image thing, if we are not talking about the NBA.

But I will return to Monaco. What I have said does not at all mean that we have accepted it and only spend it. We have a huge marketing work, we try to sell everything that concerns the club. I can say that we now have the biggest sponsorship contracts among all the teams in France. We also have the largest number of matches on television among all Pro A teams, and at the same time the largest proportion of home matches.

Before the beginning of last season, we set ourselves the goal of maximally fruitfully cooperating with the TV men. And we did it. In particular, we have achieved that our matches in the championship of France do not put on later time, since our target audience is families. In addition, many of our fans come from neighboring cities. That is, when we play at nine in the evening - this creates huge problems for filling the hall. We are glad that the teletranslators went to meet us.

Journalist: But in the Champions League this problem remains?

Sergey Dyadechko:

Only partially. We could come to an agreement here, too. We have the consent of all parties that if our match is not broadcast on the top "Canal +", but on another, less prestigious "Daily Motion", then we start no later than 19:00. Only in cases when this media giant shows us, we sacrifice a certain number of spectators in the stands in favor of the television audience, and start later.

Journalist:

Sergey, you said that you have the biggest sponsorship contracts in France. And how about the players' salaries? Is it true that you do not enter the top 5 league of Pro A?

Sergey Dyadechko:

Plus or minus is the truth. We were 4-5 on the budget last year, but played better than many. The year before, when we also won the regular season, we had a 6-8 in size budget in the league. The secret of success is that in fact the same composition in Monaco and somewhere else will cost differently. We are in an excellent location, on the Mediterranean coast. We do not need to overpay, as some teams from the east or north. Most of the players of last year's team had significantly more solid contracts in previous clubs, but agreed to our proposals. They knew that if they later get a contract from the club really higher than ours by status, and frankly say that they want to leave, we will not keep them.

Journalist:

Did not they try to keep any of those who left this summer?

Sergey Dyadechko:

Look, we had a great desire to keep, for example, Yakubu Ouattara, but he now has an offer from the NBA for a guaranteed contract, and we can not compete with this level. The guy has a huge potential to play in the strongest league of the world, and he really wants to try himself out there now. Therefore, as well as, most importantly, why restrain it? Just offer more money? I doubt that this is appropriate. Everything is fine, we are only pleased that this guy, whom we took as a player of the 2nd French Division, has grown to the French national team. This makes us a good reputation.

Journalist:

Ok, here is the level of the NBA, but not only did Ouattara want to save?

Sergey Dyadechko

No, of course, not only him. But we must be realistic: right after the end of the season, our playmaker and central - Di Bost and Brandon Davis - received proposals from Zalgiris - this is the Euroleague club, which is ready to offer 2-3 times a salary more than we do.

On the domestic scene, we are also sometimes inferior in this aspect. For example, Zach Wright, who was included in the top 5 players of the Champions League, moved to Strasbourg, earning a salary increase of somewhere between 60-70%.

Journalist:

I will again ask about sponsorship contracts in France ... could you name the numbers?

Sergey Dyadechko:

I can not disclose the names of brands, but I can say, for example, that our biggest sponsorship contract covers expenses for the two most expensive team players.

To put it more simply, I am the owner of the club, which at the beginning was the main investor. But the marketing strategy was to reach the international level, and in the French market to become the team that is most often broadcast, because it makes it the most attractive for sponsors. Now this strategy allows us to count on the fact that the budget for the next season will be formed by 80% thanks to sponsors, as well as profits from the sale of television rights and tickets / season tickets.

Journalist:

Let's leave the financial aspect a little and continue the personnel topic. Recently you announced that Zvezdan Mitrovic remains working with the team. Did you have any doubts about the coach?

Sergei Dyadechko: In what sense?

Journalist: Should I continue to cooperate with him? The French Championship is not yours again ...

Sergey Dyadechko:

Well, it's impossible to win everything. We already talked with you about the fact that last year we had a victory in the French League Cup and the Champions League bronze, besides, we won the regular championship on the domestic stage. I believe that this is more than a solid achievement. But here you still need to make it clear - last summer we signed an agreement with Mitrovic for 2 years, just now decided to declare that everything is in force. We did this in order to put an end to speculation in the press.

Journalist:

Did Mitrovic ask for an increase in the budget for the next season? In general, do you think that it should be increased?

Sergey Dyadechko:

When we signed the agreement a year ago, the coach knew that he faced the maximum tasks and knew with what budget he should reach them. It all suits you. Zvezdan knows that he is here, because we believe in him 100%. It is necessary to ask him, but I am sure that Mitrovic is happy in the "Monaco".

We also did everything to ensure that Sergei Gladyr stayed with us. And I do not mean only the financial side, because we did our best to help him with rehabilitation as much as possible. He was operated in Belgium, in a very good clinic, in which the players of Chelsea football are treated. There he is now undergoing a process of reconstruction. Yes, the injuries sometimes did not allow him to demonstrate the potential in full, but when he is healthy - this is a very high-level basketball player, we need such ones. In general, we very much appreciate the fact that he has been with us since the first year in the elite.

Journalist:

When I was interviewing Gladyr in the winter, he told me that the club was making a lot of efforts to work with fans ...

Sergey Dyadechko:

Basketball players, too, feel the work of the office, it should be so. We have chosen the right strategy, focusing on promoting family subscriptions and working with young people. As a good illustration of this, I can tell you about the fact that only during the three weeks of July we sold season tickets more than last summer. I, as president, can not but rejoice in such news.

Journalist:

Among other things, several times Gladyr also noted that you take a lot of part in the life of the team - come to the training, go to the locker room to the guys, and so on, quote "Sergei Dyadechko - the only president in Europe who goes to all away matches" . Tell me, did you ever think that maybe it somehow presses on basketball players?

Sergey Dyadechko:

I try to be closer to the team, so that we feel like one, but I'm not kinky with my presence, believe me. I understand when it's necessary to say something, and when it's best not to disturb the guys. It happens so, for example, that I'll go to the locker room, but I do not say anything to the team. I just stand and listen to our coach, like everyone else.

Journalist:

Now in the "Monaco", as in all other clubs, is bundled for the new season. How active are you in this? Do you agree with the candidates, or did you just give the head coach and manager a certain budget, and they only inform you about the signing in the future?

Sergey Dyadechko:

The last word, of course, is mine. But we in the club have relevant specialists who understand and understand basketball, follow the market. I trust them. Our success says that this is the right way to manage. Fortunately, most often our views with the head coach and the manager on the basketball players completely coincide.

Journalist:

By the way, about the Ukrainian team manager Alexey Efimov. We also watched the casting of the Champions League draw (as our "Budivelnik" appeared in the tournament) and saw that Alexey played an important role in the process. If it's not a secret, why did you choose it?

Sergey Dyadechko:

The general director of the Champions League received an invitation. They wanted to encourage us for success last season. And as prize-winners of last year's tournament, and as the best team in the field of marketing, after all we were recognized as the club which more than others increased the share of its audience in social networks. This is just a good gesture from the management of the league.

Journalist:

Would you like to see Monaco get along with Budivelnik in the Champions League?

Sergey Dyadechko:

I do not want to say that it would be important for us, or fundamentally, no. But we would be interested, it's true. We see how now people fill the Palace of Sport in Kiev, that work is being done and how interest in basketball is growing, which has been decreasing for a long time. Of course, we are all happy about this.

Journalist:

Is it worth waiting for Ukrainians in the "Monaco"? A few bright compatriots are still without teams ...

Sergey Dyadechko:

Now we are not talking about this. And you would recommend someone, or at least someone you mean?

Journalist: The first to come to mind is the same Vyacheslav Kravtsov ...

Sergey Dyadechko:

Frankly, I think that Slava will find a stronger club than ours, and I think it should be the Euroleague team, which will be able to pay more than we do. Yes, he did not score the condition after the injury and played little in the decisive stages of the playoffs, but he looked very solid before the injury, and this, by the way, is the team of the strongest league in Europe.

Journalist: If you try to imagine that you have a choice between winning the Champions League and the French Championships next spring, what would you choose?

Sergei Dyadechko: Personally, I would choose the victory in the championship of France.

Journalist: Why?

Sergei Dyadechko: We won twice the regular championship and then received two big disappointments. It was especially offensive this year, because if we talk globally, we went above our own expectations. There is a feeling that this composition, this team, deserved more.

Journalist: Please tell us in brief about your fund "Dyadechko Sport Fund" and its activities in Ukraine?

Sergei Dyadechko: I try to support various kinds of sports as far as possible, which are less developed in Ukraine, this is the focus of the work of my fund "Dyadechko Sport Fund".

Journalist: It looks a little strange, considering the successes of Monaco and the successful stage of Donetsk, that now the fund "Dyadechko Sport Fund" does not deal with basketball ...

Sergei Dyadechko: Let's just say that there was a lot of work already done for Ukrainian basketball when I was the president of the "Donetsk" you mentioned. We had the biggest basketball school in the country, more than 1000 children. We were the first to pay much attention to projects in the field of school basketball, and now many of these initiatives have been continued throughout the country.

We became winners and prizewinners of the youth Euroleague, and the first adult team was the champion of Ukraine, entered the quarterfinal of the Eurocup. But now in professional basketball I focus on "Monaco". In Ukraine it is more interesting for me to help attract young people to less developed and popular sports, because there is a lot of potential for growth here.

We hired a team of specialists in the field of sports marketing, which has undertaken and successfully promotes quite large sports for the world and Europe. In my international fund "Dyadechko Sport Fund" most of the budget is aimed at giving a push in the development of sports such as American football, crossfit, strongmen, squash. In my opinion, we do much more in Ukraine than just one-time actions or a momentary presence in a certain kind of sport. More information about the fund and its activities in Ukraine can be found on the Fund's website
